Anyway, one of the episodes that we recorded was the one where all the daughters-in-law decide they need to sew Miss Kay (the matriarch of the Robertsons) a new apron for her because she is very well "blessed in the chest" and always gets flour on her shirt where her boobs stick out of her apron. The girls attempt, rather unsuccessfully, to create Miss Kay's apron. As they are trying to figure out what went wrong, Phil and Si, Miss Kay's husband and his brother, walk in and see the trouble the girls are having.
Phil and Si are, for the most part, manly men. They catch their own meat, love to hunt and fish, and live their days in camo! Phil was a first string quarterback who started ahead of Terry Bradshaw and Si is a Vietnam vet who spent 20+ years in the Army. We aren't talking about some sissy boys here! So, imagine everyone's surprise when Si tells the girls to move over and let him at the sewing machine. He said that in "Nam" he learned to sew everything, including beaver pelts and humans to name a few. When he finished, he held the prettiest little apron you ever did see! It was adorable with a halter top design to cover Miss Kay's chest and pretty ruffles on the bottom. Si said it shouldn't come to any surprise to them because he is "a Jack of all trades!"
As we sat there laughing so hard tears were rolling, I decided right then and there that my new work horse was going to be named Si! I name everything--cars, lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners--if its got a motor, its gotta have a name in my book! My Corolla's name was Lola, my husband's Jeep is Tuffy, our John Deere riding mower is JD--it's a sickness really! So since my new machine is going to be its own "Jack of all trades" by sewing whatever crazy ideas I get to create, my new baby will be named Si! I am sure he and I will have many happy years together! And "that's a fact Jack!"
